Authors: Döring, Dominik
Abstract: In this thesis, we study two different Standard Model extensions involving neutral leptons aiming to explain current anomalies in the neutrino sector, as well as to explain the flavor anomalies in combination with the dark matter abundance in the universe.
At first, we develop a model that introduces additional sterile neutrino states featuring altered dispersion relations in order to explain the longstanding short baseline neutrino oscillation anomalies and the gallium/reactor anomalies, while also staying in accordance with high energy data from atmospheric and
long baseline accelerator experiments. Furthermore, we systematically analyze a model class of one-loop solutions to the B-anomalies in the context of fermionic singlet dark matter candidates. We study the dark matter phenomenology for both Dirac and Majorana fermions in all five models that contain a fermionic singlet.
In our analysis, we include different hierarchies between the new Yukawa couplings to Standard Model quarks and also examine different mass ratios in the dark sector.
Unsere Studie zeigt, dass besonders direkte Detektionsexperimente solche Lösungen der B-Anomalien testen können.2021-01-01T00:00:00ZBaryogenesis originating from lepton number violation induced by right-handed Majorana neutrinosZeißner, Sinanhttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/402872021-06-30T06:47:20Z2021-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Baryogenesis originating from lepton number violation induced by right-handed Majorana neutrinos
Authors: Zeißner, Sinan
Abstract: In this thesis, different ways to use right-handed Majorana neutrinos to explain the active neutrino masses as well as the baryon number asymmetry observed in our universe are investigated. It is shown that the induced lepton number violation can assist baryon number asymmetry generating models, whose asymmetry without additional lepton number violation is completely washed out by sphaleron transitions. Extending this investigation to the scotogenic model, also the relic dark matter abundance observed in our universe can be explained. Furthermore, different mechanisms for generating a lepton number asymmetry directly via interactions involving right-handed Majorana neutrinos are investigated. It is discussed that for models in which the Yukawa couplings of the neutrino sector can be larger than in the type-I seesaw mechanism, the parameter space for thermal leptogenesis is enlarged. Moreover, it is pointed out that considering thermal mass corrections, only an induced mass degeneracy of right-chiral neutrinos enables new prospects of leptogenesis.
Additionally, loop corrections for massive vector bosons interacting with each other are investigated in time-dependent perturbation theory. Studying the case of two interacting massive vector bosons in a simple example in detail, it is shown that the degree of divergence in the S-matrix is the same as expected from R_\xi gauge.; In dieser Arbeit werden verschiedene Möglichkeiten untersucht, wie rechtshändige Majorananeutrios zur Erzeugung der beobachteten Baryonzahlasymmetrie beitragen können.
Authors: Becker, Mathias
Abstract: In this thesis, we analyze several standard model extensions involving one or multiple dark matter candidates and link the dark matter problem to different other standard model shortcomings such as neutrino mass generation and flavor anomalies. First we discuss the leptonic flavor structure of an extra dimensional seesaw mechanism, which does not include a dark matter candidate. However, the mechanism suppresses couplings to the new right-handed neutrino state. This serves as a motivation to investigate a feebly coupled neutrino portal to dark matter model where the right-handed neutrino both generates the observed neutrino masses and mediates between the standard model and the dark sector. We classify the dark matter production regimes of the model and point out its phenomenological implications. Furthermore, we apply consistency conditions to strongly coupled versions of the neutrino portal to dark matter. We find that the consistency conditions induce an upper limit on the dark matter mass in such a scenario. We continue by discussing the effects of a bound state that can form in a heavy dark sector. We find that the bound state can facilitate particle number transfer from the dark sector to other sectors even if they are only feebly coupled. We also explore a class of models in this thesis that is dedicated to one-loop solutions to the R_K anomaly in the light of dark matter searches. We find that current dark matter direct detection experiments can test the one-loop solutions to the R_K anomaly.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZBlind spots for direct detection with simplified DM models and the LHCChoudhury, ArghyaKowalska, KamilaRoszkowski, LeszekSessolo, Enrico MariaWilliams, Andrew J.http://hdl.handle.net/2003/384912020-01-07T02:40:53Z2017-05-11T00:00:00ZTitle: Blind spots for direct detection with simplified DM models and the LHC

Abstract: Using the existing simplified model framework, we build several dark matter models which have suppressed spin-independent scattering cross section. We show that the scattering cross section can vanish due to interference effects with models obtained by simple combinations of simplified models. For weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) masses ≳10 GeV, collider limits are usually much weaker than the direct detection limits coming from LUX or XENON100. However, for our model combinations, LHC analyses are more competitive for some parts of the parameter space. The regions with direct detection blind spots can be strongly constrained from the complementary use of several Large Hadron Collider (LHC) searches like mono-jet, jets + missing transverse energy, heavy vector resonance searches, etc. We evaluate the strongest limits for combinations of scalar + vector, “squark” + vector, and scalar + “squark” mediator, and present the LHC 14 TeV projections.2017-05-11T00:00:00ZSearches for new physics with neutrino oscillations in the high precision eraSicking, Philipphttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/380362019-05-04T01:40:45Z2019-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Searches for new physics with neutrino oscillations in the high precision era

In this thesis we explore several new physics models and their implications on current neutrino
oscillation experiments. In particular we develop a novel model-independent method to
analyze the CP violation in neutrino oscillations, based on the unitarity constraints for the leptonic
mixing matrix. We can show that current experiments like T2K or NOvA have su cient
sensitivity to restrict new physics models signi cantly. The inclusion of matter e ects into
this new approach leads to new challenges, that are studied in more detail. Additionally we
analyzes the impact of a light sterile neutrino on the determination of the mass hierarchy at the

Authors: Schumacher, Erik
Abstract: In this thesis we link the recent anomalies reported in B meson and Higgs boson decays to the smallness of neutrino masses and aspects of the flavor puzzle, including the hierarchy of the Yukawa couplings and the disparate fermion mixings. By formulating various new models we attempt to shed light on the potential common origin of the distinct measurements in the flavor sector. To this end, discrete symmetries are utilized in this work as the governing principle behind all fermion interactions.
The first two models based on the S3 and the A4 symmetry, respectively, aim to unify the diverse fermion masses and mixings. Special features separate the frameworks from the flavor models in the literature that often lack testable predictions.
While the first model provides interesting flavor-violating signatures in top quark decays, the second one ties the flavor to the grand unification scale in a novel way.
In the three following models we focus on the anomalies that hint at lepton flavor and universality violation. We propose that the large flavor violation observed in Higgs boson decays is dictated by the scalar mixing of an enlarged S4-symmetric Higgs sector.
By constructing two leptoquark models we show for the first time that leptoquark couplings shaped by a Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism can accommodate the B meson anomalies and simultaneously generate naturally-small neutrino masses.
Emphasizing the importance of testability, we demonstrate how these models can be probed by future diphoton resonances, using the recent 750 GeV excess as an example scenario.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZNeutrino masses and flavor symmetriesPidt, Danielhttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/341542015-08-12T20:17:25Z2014-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Neutrino masses and flavor symmetries

Up to this point, no striking evidence for the theoretical nature of physics beyond the Standard Model has been found. However, there are many theoretical arguments and experimental observations why an extension of the Standard Model is necessary. In this work we focus on one of them, i.e. the existence of neutrino masses and mixing and their origin. The structures and hierarchies observed in the lepton sector show a large discrepancy to the well established quark sector. To motivate these differences we will rely on models based on flavor symmetries. After introducing a few general concepts, like Supersymmetry and the seesaw mechanism, we discuss three different classes of these. In each chapter we highlight one additional topic involved in the challenge of model building.
We begin with a framework employing the symmetry $\mathsf{A}_{4}$. Based on two existing supersymmetric models, guided by the now excluded paradigm of exact tribimaximal-mixing, we propose two viable modifications, illustrating that it can still be a useful starting point. While minimal ultraviolet completions of the old models exist, we discuss the interplay and restrictions of next-to-minimal completions and modifications of the general field content, employed to arrive at these viable versions.
Afterwards we proceed to the symmetry $\Delta(27)$ in the context of geometrical CP violation, an interesting implementation of spontaneous CP violation. We start by presenting a concept to remedy the known shortcomings of the existing first viable model of the quark sector. Then we apply the lessons learned to construct a first existence proof for an implementation covering all known fermions featuring geometrical CP violation.
Finally we conclude with a generic class of models which is only constrained by a general flavor hypothesis. In this part $R$-parity violation leads to viable neutrino structures. The number and size of the associated couplings is then reduced to a predictive set via the flavor hypothesis. Here we emphasize the differences between tribimaximal and realistic models and the question of neutrino mass hierarchy - normal or inverted?2014-01-01T00:00:00ZFourth generation neutrinos and neutrino induced hadron production in the resonance regionSchalla, Dariohttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/301022015-08-12T19:08:48Z2013-03-19T00:00:00ZTitle: Fourth generation neutrinos and neutrino induced hadron production in the resonance region

Abstract: We investigate two aspects in neutrino physics. First, we consider the extension
of the standard model by a fourth fermion generation. Allowing finite mixing of the additional neutrino, which is kept most general with a Majorana mass term, constraints on the size of its Majorana mass are derived by its contribution in neutrinoless double beta decay. This determines the neutrino to be a pseudo-Dirac particle and implications for lepton number violating processes are discussed. After constraining the mixing matrix elements by radiative charged lepton decays we present an
extradimensional model for softening the horizontal neutrino mass hierarchy.
Then we study the consequences of the neutrino in baryogenesis, where a similar bound on the Majorana mass is obtained by estimating the washout effect on any baryon- or lepton-asymmetry. The second topic is
the production of pions by neutrino-nucleon interactions via resonances. For this process various cross sections, including nuclear corrections and pion spectra, are calculated and possible applications to CP searches are proposed.; Wir untersuchen zwei Aspekte der Neutrinophysik.
Für diesen Prozeß werden verschiedene Wirkungsquerschnitte, inklusive nuklearer Korrekturen und Pionenspektren, berechnet und eine Anwendung für CP Suchen vorgeschlagen.2013-03-19T00:00:00ZEnlarged Higgs sectors as a window into flavor symmetric theories beyond the standard model of particle physicsLeser, Philipphttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/299462015-08-12T21:42:43Z2013-02-22T00:00:00ZTitle: Enlarged Higgs sectors as a window into flavor symmetric theories beyond the standard model of particle physics

The flavor puzzle refers to the existence of three generations of quarks and leptons with identical gauge couplings but widely hierarchical masses. These generations mix among each other, but with very different mixing matrices in the quark and lepton sectors respectively.
Flavor models used to address these issues often lack unique predictions and
testability. Consequently, in this thesis we investigate phenomenological models that
aim to solve parts of the flavor puzzle, but are testable using collider experiments. A
neutrino mixing model based on the symmetry S3 is analyzed which contains a Higgs
sector potentially testable at the LHC through exotic decays. We also propose a model based on Δ(27), which for the first time provides a calculable, geometrical phase stable up to all orders as the only source of CP violation. The model can reproduce all CKM data while having a symmetry breaking sector testable at the LHC. Finally—as an alternative to discrete symmetries—using a class of generic seesaw models we investigate the consequences of a scenario in which all the neutrino mixing is generated in a heavy right-handed Majorana sector. We show that even in the generic class of models considered, common experimental predictions such as a normal neutrino mass hierarchy emerge.2013-02-22T00:00:00ZEnsembles, altered dispersion relations and CPT violation in neutrino oscillations and charged lepton decaysHollenberg, Sebastianhttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/297372015-08-12T19:13:22Z2012-11-02T00:00:00ZTitle: Ensembles, altered dispersion relations and CPT violation in neutrino oscillations and charged lepton decays

This thesis introduces a description of altered dispersion relations and CPT-violating effects in neutrino oscillations and charged lepton decays. Such phenomena can arise, e.g., in the
early Universe and models with extra spatial dimensions. We develop a perturbation theory for the coherence vector description of neutrino oscillations and propose a unified approach to adiabatic and nonadiabatic two-flavor oscillations in neutrino ensembles with finite temperature and generic potential terms. We neglect ensemble
decoherence and solve the associated quantum kinetic equations. Eventually, we apply the methodology of said perturbation theory to neutrino ensembles in the presence of decohering interactions. Moreover, we develop a nonadiabatic perturbation theory for oscillations involving an arbitrary
number of neutrinos and antineutrinos. We include lepton-number violation in the
approach and treat it as a small perturbation parameter. We find that small lepton-number violation in vacuo can be enhanced in CP-odd matter and apply the formalism to the twogeneration case.
Finally, we investigate low-energy CPT-violating modifications in charged current weak interactions. We analyze muon and antimuon decays and, using the difference in their lifetimes, put bounds on the CPT-violating parameters. We also elaborate on muon and antimuon differential decay rates.2012-11-02T00:00:00ZThe decays ¯B → ¯K (∗)ℓ+ℓ− at low recoil and their constraints on new physicsDyk, Danny vanhttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/295142015-08-12T23:50:04Z2012-07-16T00:00:00ZTitle: The decays ¯B → ¯K (∗)ℓ+ℓ− at low recoil and their constraints on new physics

Abstract: Considering physics as it is done today one notices that physics separates into two formally and conceptually different parts. There is on the one hand classical physics that deals with macroscopic phenomena and there is on the other hand quantum physics that deals with microscopic phenomena. Penrose [96] described this situation as a disturbing analogy to ancient Greece, where two different sets of laws for earth and heaven were applied. So immediately the question arises if one really has to use different formalisms on different scales or if it is possible to describe physics in a unified way. In order to investigate this question one first has to consider how classical and quantum physics are related. Quantum mechanics results from classical physics by a procedure called quantization and classical physics is reobtained by taking the classical limit. Both procedures are heavily plagued by problems [61, 100]. In the first chapter the mathematical problems of quantization will be addressed and it will be described how the star product formalism circumvents these problems. The star product formalism has the advantage that there is no formal break if one goes from classical physics to quantum physics. This formal advantage and the resulting beauty is then used as a guiding principle for the further development. The first question that arises is if the spin can be described in the star product formalism. That this is indeed possible is shown in the second chapter. As a starting point the spin description with pseudoclassical mechanics as it was developed by Berezin is used. One can then construct a fermionic star product and apply it for deformation quantization of pseudoclassical mechanics. In analogy to the bosonic star product formalism one obtains spin Wigner functions that act as spin projectors. Besides the nonrelativistic case it is also possible to formulate Dirac theory with star products. The Clifford algebra of the gamma matrices is hereby described as a deformed version of a four dimensional Grassmann algebra. The fermionic star product in combination with the bosonic Moyal product leads to a supersymmetric star product formalism that can be used to describe supersymmetric quantum mechanics and in the relativistic case to describe the supersymmetric structure of Dirac theory. The other direction of generalization of the star product formalism is the application of star products in quantum field theory that is described in chapter three. After constructing a suitable normal product it is shown that the algebraic structures of perturbative quantum field theory appear also in the star product formalism, which is an expression of the algebra morphism of the operator and the star product formalism. But moreover the quantum group structure that was recently found in perturbative quantum field theory is shown to be a natural algebraic structure of the star product. The essential advantage of deformation quantization is that the classical limit has a well defined meaning. In the context of the spin description with star products this leads to the question of the classical limit of spin, or equivalently to the question of the physical status of pseudoclassical mechanics. In chapter four it is shown that this question is solved if one realizes that the fermionic sector together with the fermionic star product describe the underlying geometric structure. The deformation of a Grassmann algebra leads to a Clifford calculus that is equivalent to geometric algebra. The formulation of geometric algebra in the star product formalism is given in chapter four. One sees there that geometric algebra as the most fundamental geometric formalism that unifies all geometric structures that appear in physics can be described in a supersymmetric manner that parallels the bosonic star product structures. Having obtained a formulation of geometry with fermionic star products this formalism is then applied in the fifth chapter to physical problems. As examples for the application of geometric algebra in classical physics the rigid body and the Kepler problem are considered. In both cases the formalism of geometric algebra gives the most elegant formulation of the problem. In the quantum case one can then combine the fermionic star product formalism that describes the underlying geometric structure with the bosonic star product that describes the noncommuative structure of quantum mechanics. The result is a noncommutative version of geometric algebra that leads to a natural appearance of spin terms. The same idea applied on the phase space leads to the split in supersymmetric partner systems. Geometric algebra gives in this way a natural geometric foundation of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Similarly one can interpret the hidden BRST-structure of classical mechanics that was found by E. Gozzi and M. Reuter in the path integral formalism from a star product point of view.2007-12-13T15:13:32ZFalse vacuum decay with quantum back-reactionKevlishvili, Ninahttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/244002015-08-12T16:35:00Z2007-06-25T14:12:46ZTitle: False vacuum decay with quantum back-reaction

the framework of the baryogenesis via leptogenesis scenario. We analyze
various aspects of this scenario including the influence of perturbations of
the energy density and space–time metric perturbations on the generation
of the lepton and baryon asymmetries. We also consider conversion of
the lepton asymmetry into the baryon asymmetry and investigate the effects
associated with the fact, that the lepton asymmetry induces nonzero
chemical potentials of the other species. We estimate upper bound on
the asymmetry in the Standard Model and in the superstring inspired E6
model. Properties of this model relevant for leptogenesis are discussed in
detail. The baryogenesis via leptogenesis scenario predicts nonzero masses
of the neutrinos, measured in the oscillation experiments. We calculate
cross sections of the charged and neutral current coherent pion production
by neutrino scattering off nuclei relevant for the interpretation of the
experimental results.2007-04-23T14:14:11ZChiral symmetry restoration in quantum field theories at finite temperatureMichalski, Stefanhttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/235312015-08-13T00:42:39Z2007-03-06T12:31:36ZTitle: Chiral symmetry restoration in quantum field theories at finite temperature

This thesis addresses two topics: the inflationary perturbation spectrum and preheating after hybrid inflation. Quantum fluctuations in the inflationary universe provide a natural mechanism for the generation of primordial perturbations which seed the formation of cosmic structure. In this thesis we present a semi-analytical, and mathematically controlled, so-called uniform approximation. This approximation can be used for the calculation of scalar and tensor inflationary perturbations. Detailed calculations of the power spectra, the spectral indices and other observables are performed to leading and next-to-leading order in the uniform approximation, respectively. Explicit 'slow-roll' assumptions are avoided. A simple extension of the leading order, which is gained from the detailed understanding of the next-to-leading order, leads to excellent accuracy of the uniform approximation, which is demonstrated with several representative examples. The results are compared to standard slow-roll approximations as well as to exact numerical results. The techniques and numerical routines described here allow to calculate primordial perturbation spectra very efficiently with high precision and to constrain some models of inflation. Furthermore, this thesis provides a detailed analysis of some aspects of preheating after hybrid inflation. In the hybrid model the inflationary expansion is terminated by a phase transition of a symmetry-breaking field. During inflation this symmetry-breaking field is trapped in a false vacuum, becomes dynamically instable and performs a transition to the true vacuum. Herein the important influence of the back-reaction of quantum fluctuations is considered by using a bubble-resummation of the propagators. The problem of renormalization in a system of multiple and coupled fields is explicitly solved. The false vacuum transition after hybrid inflation, along with other physical observables, is analyzed with detailed numerical investigations reliably and the influence of back-reaction of quantum fluctuations is emphasized.2005-06-28T00:00:00ZNeutrino interactions and nuclear effects in oscillation experiments and the nonperturbative dispersive sector in strong (quasi-)Abelian fieldsYu, Ji-Younghttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/23962015-08-13T00:46:32Z2002-06-17T00:00:00ZTitle: Neutrino interactions and nuclear effects in oscillation experiments and the nonperturbative dispersive sector in strong (quasi-)Abelian fields

Abstract: We present in the first part cross sections for single pion production, quasi-elastic and deep inelastic scattering by muon and tau-neutrinos relevant for oscillation experiments, including nuclear effects. It will be useful for the study of neutrino oscillations in future oscillation experiments. In the second part we introduce a method to separate perturbative and non-perturbative parts in the dispersive sector of the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian density in strong (quasi-)Abelian fields. Further, using (modified) Borel-Pade approximation applied to the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian, we test numerically the approximate analytic continuation of the perturbative results into the nonperturbative sector.2002-06-17T00:00:00ZThe Poisson-sigma modelSchwarzweller, Thomashttp://hdl.handle.net/2003/23952015-08-12T18:59:36Z2002-03-20T00:00:00ZTitle: The Poisson-sigma model
