Sustainability plays a significant role in the development of new synthetic-processes in organic chemistry. Increasing attention is being paid to improving energy efficiency, reducing waste production and using renewable raw materials. Cyclodextrin-based NHC metal complexes represent a good way to combine these topics. Chemical reactions can be both accelerated and selectively controlled using catalysts. For this reason, various catalyst systems were developed as part of this thesis. The synthesized catalysts were composed of a cyclodextrin unit and an NHC metal complex. Three different cyclodextrins - α-, β- and γ cyclodextrin - were used as a basic compound for this purpose. The NHC ligands were coupled to the cyclodextrin via two different structural motifs. As metals, the coinage metals - copper, silver and gold - were used. In this way, a variety of different cyclodextrin-based catalysts were obtained. The catalysts were tested for their catalytic activity and enantioselectivity in the cycloisomerization of a prochiral δ hydroxyallene. Another focus was placed on the recylability of the catalysts, which can further increase the sustainability. Catalysts are nowadays designed in such a way that they can be separated from the product after the reaction allowing the reuse of the catalyst. This can be achieved by using water as a solvent. Thus, the hydrophobic product can be removed from the reactionmixture by extraction, while the hydrophilic catalyst remains in the aqueous reaction medium. The combination of cyclodextrins with NHC metal complexes represents a very promising possibility for this purpose. Thus, water-soluble cyclodextrin NHC gold-complexes were designed and synthesized in this work. Furthermore, first investigations on the catalytic activity, enantioselectivity and reusability of these catalysts were carried out. For this purpose, the lactonization of an allenic carboxylic acid in water as solvent was considered.
