This paper reframes neglected interstitial sites, or “urban cracks,” as resources for adaptive and participatory urbanism. It draws on established concepts, including lost space and terrain vague, to assert that the ambiguity and temporality of these sites provide opportunities for experimentation. The analysis is inspired by the philosophy of junk playgrounds, treating play as a guiding principle that suspends prescriptive norms and encourages collective improvisation. The study introduces Minimally Intrusive Interventions (MII), defined as lightweight, mobile, reversible, and abstract elements that activate urban cracks while maintaining their openness. The MII method unfolds iteratively by placing cues, observing site rhythms, inviting engagement, and refining interventions in response. Integrating urban cracks with MII produces adaptive playgrounds, environments in which meaning, relationships, and uses develop over time. This approach complements formal planning by promoting smallscale, provisional configurations and prioritizing observation and contextual resonance over fixed outcomes.en
