An explanation is presented for the observed inverse quadratic dependence of the spectral spin-diffusion rate constant on the frequency difference of the two involved spin species in the presence of a large extraneous dipolar reservoir. The result applies to spin diffusion in the laboratory frame and to cross polarization in a rotating frame.en
