This study examines the social participation of 886 primary and secondary students based on the assessments by regular and special needs teachers. To this extent, the social participation questionnaire (SPQ) was analyzed using probabilistic test theory (Rasch model) and, subsequently, a multi-stage model of social participation was developed based on the total score. The results show, that after eliminating some items, the Rasch model can be accepted as valid and social participation can be divided into the following three levels: outsiders (level 1), acceptance (level 2) and friendship (level 3). The correlation indicating the agreement between the teacher ratings is .43. In 71% of the cases, students are assigned the same level by both teachers. However, in 13% of the cases, the teachers’ opinions are completely opposite. This indicates that the two teachers each have their own particular views on some of the students.en
