Abstract
Based on household survey data from the research project StadtLeben, the paper investigates as to what extent lifestyles may be explained by life situations (as described by age, household composition, social status etc.). Lifestyle groups as well as various dimensions of lifestyles are being studied by descriptive and multivariate statistical methods. The results indicate that lifestyles may partially – although not completely – be explained by life situations. Age, education, gender and household type are the most important variables for the explanation of lifestyles. The results largely confirm previous results of lifestyle research.
